George Washington could not tell a lie; George W. Bush cannot tell the truth. Sadly, the neoconservative mentors of Bush used the tragedy of 9/11 to take the country to the cleaners by fostering fear.

Most of the lies have now been exposed - the manufactured reasons for the Iraq war, resulting in the quagmire of untold tragedies; coercion of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to mislead about global warming; and decimation of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) , resulting in rampant incompetence after Hurricane Katrina. Last month, the inspector general of the Justice Department revealed blatant misuse of the Patriot Act, after solemn promises to a supine Republican Congress.

Cornered, Bushies insist on testifying without the constraints of an oath to tell the truth, such as Condi Rice and the Bush-Cheney joint testimonies to the 9/11 commission. Bush wants to preserve the executive branch's right to lie.

Now, the attorney general, with the collusion of the White House, is caught in a web of deceit for firing eight U.S. attorneys for blatant political purposes. Political pressure and the Democratic Congress are demanding the truth. Again, the Bushies insist on testifying without an oath or even a recorded transcript.

We the people say no; take the oath, tell the truth. Bushies have yet to learn - They cannot fool all the people all the time.
